Appetite is basically the desire to eat food, it manifests itself as hunger. A healthy appetite is important for sufficient energy intake so that essential metabolic activities can be carried out. A regulated appetite is necessary for leading a normal lifestyle. Appetite-related conditions include anorexia, bulimia, polyphagia, and cachexia.

Arteriosclerosis is a hardening of the large and medium-sized arteries. The most common form of arteriosclerosis is atherosclerosis which is a hardening of the artery due to accumulation of atheromatous plaque. The plaque consists of cholesterol and lead to calcification and ulcers in the artery. Arteriosclerosis is different from arteriolosclerosis which is the hardening of smaller arteries.

The most popular low-carb diet. Robert C Atkins came up with this diet in the 1960s. Dr. Atkins adapted the diet from a diet published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The basic concepts of the Atkins Diet have been unchanged all these years. The Atkins Diet does not consider saturated fats to be overly harmful to the body. It holds refined foods responsible for problems such as obesity.

BMR is the amount of energy lost when a body is at rest in a neutrally temperate environment. In this state, the energy released is used to run the vital organs only. These include the heart, lungs, liver, kidney, skin, the nervous system, muscles, sex organs, and brain. Loss of lean body mass decreases BMR. Cardiovascular exercise helps to increase BMR. Since the basal metabolic rate of an individual contributes maximum to energy expenditure, if the BMR is known it helps to lose or gain weight by preparing a more personalized diet plan.

Binge eating relates to a pattern of disordered eating in which an individual eats large quantities of food over a short period of time. It is commonly found in bulimic patients. Binge foods are characterized by high calories, sugar and starch. In a binge eating episode, the addict consumes a greater than average amount of food in a short period of time, often in secrecy.

The Bland Diet is a type of diet designed to minimize irritation of the gastrointestinal tract. It is implemented for people who are suffering from conditions such as peptic ulcers and dyspepsia. Dairy products, tender meats, fresh fruit juices form the bulk of this diet.
