Located at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, the Outpatient Core for the New York Obesity Research consists of the Weight Control Unit (St. Luke's site) and provides therapy for about 150 obese outpatients per week. Since its inception in 1977, more than 4000 obese patients, representing a broad cross-section of ethnic groups and socio-economic classes, have been treated at the Core's Weight Control Unit and more recently at the Vanltallie Center for Nutrition and Weight Management. The mission of the New York Obesity Research Center is to help reduce the incidence of obesity and related diseases through leadership in basic research, clinical research, epidemiology and public health, patient care, and public education.

The Education Center on Computational Science and Engineering (ECCSE) is affiliated to the San Diego State University and was formed with the objective of encouraging the assimilation of high-performance research tools used for scientific investigation into the curriculum for undergraduate studies. This is done with the intention of enabling undergraduates to gear up for post-Baccalaureate activities in which advanced computer technology and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment are important. The faculty and students at ECCSE accomplish the Center�s objectives by developing and executing projects and training programs that benefit future research, the preparation of educationists, and the technical workforce.

Clemson University, the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina, and the South Carolina Research Authority founded the South Carolina Nutrition Research Consortium in 2003. The objective of the consortium is to utilize the facilities and resources available with the three research universities in South Carolina, government, and private sector in order to boost research on nutrition and foster good nutrition discipline and knowledge on disease prevention among the residents of South Carolina. The current focus of the consortium is on: •Prevention and co-morbidities, particularly in underserved populations. •Nutraceuticals, genomics, functional foods, and complementary and alternative medicines.
