The Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) is a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and executes its activities in partnership with the University of Maryland's Department of Nutrition and Food Science and Howard University's Department of Nutritional Sciences.
FNIC has been propagating information on food and human nutrition since 1971. FNIC is carrying out project in several niches of nutrition and health. These include the Child Care Nutrition Resource System (CCNRS) and the Healthy School Meals Resource System (HSMRS) which deals with the USDA’s Child Nutrition Programs; Food Stamp Nutrition Connection is a repository of information for educationists involved with the Food Stamp Program; International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements (IBIDS) is a database of bibliographic citations and abstracts from published, international, scientific literature on dietary supplements.
