There is increasing evidence that cancer risk and obesity are directly related. Fat cells have various effects on cell growth regulators. High levels of insulin and IGF-1 may promote the development of colon, kidney, and prostate cancers. Fat tissue also produces excess amounts of estrogen which has been associated with endometrial, ovarian and breast cancers.
